Beer is a big part on my trips, and one of the first things i do when i arrive in a new country is to try out the local brew, and according to an beer app on my phone i have tried 286 DIFFERENT beers in Asia over the years. Some have been good, most been about average and a few beers have been so horrible bad that i have actually gone back to the store and bought a second bottle to see if its been something wrong with the first bottle.
Top 8 beer to drink in Asia
8.Slow Boat Brewery, Beijing China
This dark copper ale is made with four varieties of hops from the American Pacific Northwest to give it a pungent grapefruit aroma. I really liked the beer, it might been since it was the first proper Pale Ale i had, had in a long time.
Its quite pricey for being a beer in China (local beer is dirt cheap) but is well worth it.
Every time im back in Beijing now, ill go for a some pints of Slow Boat
7.Bir Bintang, Indonesia
American Pale Lager
The Pilsner has a malt and hop flavour. Its taste is often compared to Heineken. Its far from being the best beer in Asia, but when the temperature hits 30c+ its not much that can beat the taste of a chill Bintang in South East Asia.
6.Beer Lao, Laos
Time Magazine called it “Asia’s best beer”
Darker in color and more robust in flavour than some of the other pale brews in the region, despite being made from rice. Even its not from Thailand, its still the only beer i would drink in Thailand.
5.San Miguel Pale Pilsen, Philippines
Strong pale malt aroma. golden and clear with a fast fading head. Its one of the most common beer in Asia, its very drinkable, and a huge . is that its very cheap compered to the high priced microbrews.
4.San Miguel Light, Philippines
Sweetish aroma, not so much malty Clear golden colour. Small white head. The flavour is surprisingly sweet for a light beer.
Its also not one of the best beers in Asia, but as with Bintang its not much that beasts a ice-cold San Miguel light when it gets to warm and you have to cool of in the shade for a few hours.
3.Hitachino Nest White Ale, Japan
Pours a quite hazy caramel yellow amber with a half finger white head
This absolutely amazing beer, but unfortunately i have only seen it 4/5 places in all of Asia, but i always buy a few bottles when ill come across it.
2.Ise Kadoya Brown Ale, Japan
Fruity aroma, dark fruits with toffee and caramel
I came across this beer in a small local bar in Kyoto, Japan
Normally im not a fan of Brown Ale, but this one was just great.
1.Boxing cat brewery, Shanghai China
Pours a clear gold. Light malty aroma. Nice malty sweetness followed by mild hoppy bitterness. Light bodied and refreshing.
I came across this small brewery on one of my many trips to Shanghai, after a long day of walking around Shanghai i stumbled across this small brewery, and it absolutely knocked my knocked my socks of.
